This is the first time

"This is the first time I purchased this type of handguard. It was a great price. You need to index the aluminum barrel nut to align a hole in the barrel nut and the gas tube hole in the upper receiver. I thought that this handguard would come with a locking nut to tighten down the handguard to a specific place. I have a flip-up sight and hand stop attached to the handguard so I needed the handguard in a specific position. Fortunately, it lined up near where I needed it to align it with the rear sight. The handguard threads are relatively loose on the barrel nut so you can tighten it up and, at least on my handguard, it lined up where I needed it. I think it would have been better if it came with a locking nut to set the handguard up exactly where you need it to be. I didn’t use thread locker on the handguard threads because if I want to remove it, it would be easier to remove. JustRails might sell a locking nut to fit this handguard but I didn’t look to see if they sell one. Overall I like the handguard and it looks nice. I like the fact that it has all those M-Lok slots to attach things to the handguard but it needs to be set up correctly to make it useable."

Poor Barrel Nut Fit to Receiver

"The visual appeal of the handguard is stunning. The tube is very well cut, it is lightweight, sturdy and has very nice finishing. It looks great. The fitment of the handguard onto the barrel nut is exceptional -- the threaded interface is very long and the threads have a nice tight secure fit onto the barrel nut. There is no question that the handguard tube will stay in place on the barrel nut once torqued down. So far this handguard is an exceptional deal. Where this handguard falls short though, is in the cut of the threads for the barrel nut fitment to the threaded receiver extension. The threads in the barrel nut are just cut too large, and they fit so loosely that the barrel nut wobbles loosely without adequate engagement as it's threaded onto the threaded receiver extension. I've tried using several different upper receivers all with the same result -- the barrel nut fitment to the receiver is just too lose to be trustworthy. That's a shame because every other aspect of this handguard is first rate. Unfortunately the loose fitment of the barrel nut to the receiver extension suggests that the cut of the threading of the barrel nut is just out of spec. The fitment of these threads is just poor in comparison to the fitment of the threads that hold the handguard, which are excellent. Additionally the 20 holes in the barrel nut (for fitment of the wrench and passage of the gas tube) appear not to be spaced evenly. My Midwest Industries barrel nut wrench has 7 index pins to fit into the holes of the barrel nut, and though it will fit properly across all 7 holes at some times, it will not fit into all 7 holes at other times, depending on which holes are selected. The problem is that the 20 holes are not spaced evenly. If the holes were spaced consistently then the wrench would fit no matter which holes were selected. When using the wrench I have to be careful to try several times to find holes that will line up. I also did not receive the two timing shims that go between the barrel nut and the barrel extension to allow timing of the holes in the barrel nut with the gas tube pass-through in the upper receiver. I emailed C/S, who said they would send the missing shims to me, but I haven't received them or a tracking number after a week of waiting. All in all the handguard is exceptionally nice and it's something that I really like -- but the problem is that the barrel nut is just not of the same quality. It is poorly made and ruins the deal. Based on the barrel nut's poor quality, I recommend against buying this unit."
